The New Animated Series' Opening Sequence Chose the Wrong Popular RPG Show Song

The Mighty Nein, the newest animated series from the beloved role-playing group, unveiled a new introductory sequence. It features the beloved group of outcasts, misfits, and criminals kicking ass and making their mark, while also hinting at several agonizing backstories for characters such as the voice actor's mage Caleb, and another actor's warlock orc, Fjord.

All in all, the intro appears stunning. However, I felt that an element was lost in the music selection.

This sequence uses "Welcome to the Continent", an exceptional song created by artist Colm McGuinness. It's a track from the soundtrack album of the same name, the second release put out by the production company's record label Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a wonderful nostalgic option, and I suspect that fans of the sequel series will appreciate its inclusion.

But for me, The series' intro doesn't quite capture the excitement and excitement that accompanied the show's actual-play adventure. "It's Your Turn", written by musician Jason Charles Miller, became an immediate hit for me when it was first revealed in that year, and it only got better when co-founder Sam Riegel wrote words to the tune for the series' animated intro in 2018.

Including singing from Ashley Johnson, Laura Bailey, Travis Willingham, as well as Riegel himself, the track was catchy and fun. At the time, I hadn't seen the second campaign at that point, but it was so infectious that I still saved it on my device. It's a song that knows how to get you pumped before you dive into an installment of fantasy hijinks.

The Mighty Nein's intro with "Welcome to Wildemount" doesn't strike the right notes for me. It's a grand composition, but based on my understanding of the group, I feel that its tone is a little off.

Of course, Critical Role has already said that the animated show will have a few surprises and variations from the original live sessions. An adjusted mood for its intro seems to be among these.

The Mighty Nein will be available to watch on the streaming service from Nov. 19. For those eager until then, or want a head start to learn about the characters of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the original episodes are available on Spotify and YouTube.
