Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After NYC Shooting

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he has been in contact with cornerback Kris Boyd and believes the player will recover well after suffering a gunshot wound in central New York in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn described that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “upbeat” during their recent conversation.

“That’s what eases my mind, is that his mood is upbeat,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His wife and his kid, they’re in good spirits and he will walk away from this just fine.”

Glenn was unsure when Boyd could be discharged the medical facility, where his condition is described as serious yet stable.

“Don’t know just yet,” the coach said. “Yet I must mention, from our conversation, he felt really upbeat. Furthermore, that puts my mind at ease, given his positive frame of mind and he expresses himself so positively.”

Authorities released surveillance images earlier this week of a suspect in the attack on the player. What prompted the attack is still being looked into and authorities said it remains uncertain if Boyd was singled out. No other injuries according to reports.

The attack took place around 2 a.m. on Sunday morning about halfway between MSG and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, twenty-nine, was taken to a local hospital after sustaining an abdominal gunshot wound, police said. The assailant escaped.

Glenn said Boyd has occupied his thinking “a great deal” since the news broke. Glenn added that Boyd and his wife are new parents to a child.

“The first thing I thought about, he has a new baby,” Glenn remarked. “I thought of his spouse, worrying about his newborn and my priority is his well-being. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.
“There’s a process to this, which I won’t get into, but It is reassuring that his outcome looks very positive.”

Boyd was inactive in the present campaign, his debut year with New York, after his season was cut short due to injury on mid-August with a shoulder injury that needed an operation.

He signed with New York as an unrestricted free agent in spring and was anticipated to become an important component of an improved special teams group under the coach and special teams coordinator the special teams coach. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury during a training camp practice on August 2 and had to be helped off.

Boyd has remained around the team during the entire campaign while healing from his surgery.

“He’s been a part of what we’re doing,” Glenn said. “I mean, he is a regular at our matches. His commitment is total. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he has been instrumental in guiding others.”

Boyd, from Texas, spent his initial four years with the Vikings after his selection in the later rounds by Minnesota out of the University of Texas in 2019. He signed with the Arizona Cardinals in last year and moved to Houston’s squad after that. Boyd signed a one-year contract valued at $1.6 million with New York in the spring.
