David Raya Highlights Squad Depth as Essential to Silverware Ambitions
The Spanish shot-stopper has emphasized that fierce rivalry for first-team spots is fueling Arsenal's exceptional run, with the keeper confident that the team's roster under Mikel Arteta is so remarkable that they can challenge for multiple honors this season.
Dominant Victories Highlight Arsenal's Strength
The North London club's latest 4-0 triumph over Atlético Madrid marked their sixth straight victory and tenth triumph in 12 matches. Having let in just three goals—the fewest at this stage in the team's legacy—Arsenal have secured a one-point lead at the top of the table and a perfect record in the European competition after three outings.
Rotation and Depth Crucial to Achievements
Raya has started in almost all matches, aside from one Carabao Cup encounter, but the manager has consistently rotated the lineup following heavy spending on new signings. When asked about competing for several pieces of silverware, Raya said, "Yes, I believe so. Our squad strength is amazing. There are numerous options who can perform in multiple roles."
For instance, against Atlético, a teammate was introduced as a striker and is capable of playing as a No 8 or No 10. Such flexibility is available to the manager, and he's using it to our advantage. It's looking very, very good, and this roster strength is crucial for us.
Competition Elevates Performance
Raya continued, "This situation provides an extra level in practice and matches because if you slack off, your place is at risk instantly. It creates intense rivalry in training and on the pitch, which is really, really important, and everyone is on board."
Defensive Solidity a Collective Effort
Arsenal have conceded only one goal from regular play so far, and Raya has faced a mere one attempt in their recent victories against Atlético, Fulham, and West Ham.
"It's a collective effort from the striker to the goalkeeper," Raya explained. "Each player is committed, determined not to give anything away, and we aim to intercept passes prior to it crossing the halfway line. By winning it back, it allows a quick counter. It's crucial for the entire team to understand this mentality, and opponents aren't creating many chances, which is ideal."
