Antony Price, the influential British fashion designer who crafted many legendary styles favored by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has passed away at 80 years old.

His reputation was built on his sculptured silhouettes and dramatic aesthetics, such as the light-hued ensembles that appeared in the pop-rock group Duran Duran's landmark music video for "their hit Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message on social media."

This news arrives shortly after he debuted his newest line in London, his first in more than 30 years. Artist Lily Allen modelled a dress that paid homage to the famous black velvet "dress" made famous by Princess Diana.

An Enduring Influence

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price headed for London during the sixties to attend the prestigious Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he began designing clothing for men at the company Stirling Copper and was responsible for the form-fitting, button-fly pants that Sir Mick Jagger wore during The Rolling Stones' Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.

He founded his own label in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show was launched by outfits on supermodel Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the bridal gown Price designed for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A frequent collaborator of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price created the memorable jacket the star wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His trademark skill to merge menswear and womenswear along with his masterful technique in shaping form-fitting garments made him a "genuine original," as stated by the British Fashion Council.

In the 1990s, he commenced designing outfits for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, including various looks for her American tour following her marriage.

Following a profession lasting over fifty years, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London just last month in collaboration with the design house 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: The core of his aesthetic.
  • Performative Style: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
  • Genre-Blending Design: Merging menswear with womenswear.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: Including music legends and the future Queen Consort.

The fashion world mourns the loss to a genuine innovator whose influence on style and culture remains profoundly felt.
